Certificate of Excellence

On June 7, 2011, Maricopa Integrated Health System in Phoenix, AZ was presented with a QUITZone Certificate of Excellence for meeting the requirements of an Arizona tobacco- free healthcare organization.  The award was presented to Betsey Bayless, President and CEO of Maricopa Integrated Health System by Wayne Tormala, Bureau Chief of the Office of Tobacco and Chronic Disease, and Will Humble, Director of the Arizona Department of Health Services.

Mr. Humble shared the success of the ceremony in a newsletter that stated “Our Bureau of Tobacco & Chronic Disease and the UA Healthcare Partnership honored them this week for their efforts to “walk-the-talk” in promoting healthy lifestyles and combating the health and cost burdens of tobacco use and secondhand smoke. To help achieve a tobacco-free workplace they created positive signage, tools and training for all staff to use when helping others quit tobacco, and direct linkages to the Arizona Smokers’ HelpLine”

"We all know the documented evidence of the negative impact of tobacco use and smoking on the health of the user and those exposed to second hand smoke. We all are involved some way in treating those who suffer from the harmful effects of tobacco use."
