The Indian Health Service (IHS) has awarded a contract (#75H70424P00038 – Tobacco Intervention Certification Programs) to the University of Arizona HealthCare Partnership (HCP), part of the Psychology Department, to support all 12 IHS Area Offices in reducing the prevalence of commercial tobacco use. This initiative will provide training to health providers and community influencers in treating commercial tobacco dependence. Emphasizing mutual respect, cultural sensitivity, and the empowerment of Indigenous voices in decision-making processes, these efforts aim to foster healthier communities.

Basic Skills (BSNC) Cover _ 2024

This initiative supports IHS’ efforts in commercial tobacco prevention and cessation. It will utilize U of A HCP’s continuing education (CE) and certification programs, to include:

  • Basic Tobacco Intervention Skills (BTIS) Certification for Native Communities
  • INSTRUCTOR of BTIS Certification for Native Communities
  • Tobacco Treatment Specialist
